Violin Lessons

We provide violin lessons from six years to all levels from elementary to advanced. The lessons take place at the
academy and last between 30 minutes and one hour depending on the student’s needs and stage of learning. Any
student who has previous experience with the violin will be fully assessed at their first lesson to establish “where they
are’ with music literacy, technical ability and general knowledge of the instrument. After this informal assessment the
student will be provided with tuition to suit their specific needs.

Violin lessons are normally provided on a one to one basis but shared lessons can be arranged the students are at a
similar level of ability. All students are encouraged to take exams which are set by The Royal Irish Academy of Music
Board from Elementary to Grade VIII. Those wishing to do exams will have to pay an exam fee to the examining body CO
on application. Exam fees will vary depending on the grade being entered for. Students can also be prepared for junior
I leaving cert practicals, both at ordinary and higher level.

If you are thinking of starting violin lessons and have not as yet purchased an instrument, wait and speak with your
music teacher who can give you some good advice on what to look for and what to avoid.

While music theory is optional it is advised that students strongly consider taking this as additional subject to
compliment the instrument being learned. Students will also be fully prepared for any Junior and Leaving Cert Practical
exams.

Suzuki Method for younger children

(Group Classes)

The Suzuki method i based on the principle that all children possess ability and that this ability developed:
enhanced through a nurturing environment. The Suzuki method has enabled many children to achieve a high musical
standard.

An early start (age 4-5 years) is essential for the Suzuki method, therefore the child learns to play before learning to
read. We are now booking for Suzuki method violin lessons.

Beginner Group Violin Classes (5 6 years)
In this class the children are offered the opportunity to begin reading music through staff notation.

We are currently taking bookings for all violin classes. Adult violin lessons available from Beginners to Advanced.
